The holiday season is upon us, and we all know what it means.
We all try to get as much done during this time, making the absolute best of the final few weeks of 2014 – all while trying to relax and enjoy some well-deserved family time. It’s hard to keep a balance during this season, and this is exactly why I’ve decided to share with you my 4-step system to staying on top of things during this time of year.
4 Steps to sanity during the holiday season:
STEP #1: Plan the week ahead.
While usually I’m a fan of the daily planning, during an extra busy time of the year planning ahead your week is a great way to keep on top of everything, knowing in advance what you’ll be doing and when.
Start by adding the anchors to your schedule; The meetings, the outdoor activities – everything that is an absolute must and involves either trips or other people.
Now that you know all the milestones of the week, like family dinners and trips, it’s time to outline everything that needs to happen before them. Got a dinner on Friday? Awesome! Now write down what you need to do before – grocery shopping, prep, cooking, cleaning, phone calls etc. Make sure you know every small detail that has to be prepared before you can complete the big task or event.
STEP #3: GATHER TASKS IN ONE PLACE.
Now that you know in great detail which tasks build up to your anchors this week, list them ALL in one place; It can be an organizer, your phone or even a piece of paper -just make sure that everything is in one place, so instead of knowing you have a family dinner on Friday, you also know you have grocery shopping on Monday, prep on Wednesday and cooking session on Thursday and Friday morning. It will allow you to have a better grasp of the free time you have this week, and ultimately allow you to make smart choices.
STEP #4: KEEP YOUR SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE.
Now that you know how your week looks like – always eep it with you at a glance! Make sure that nothing surprises you, because you always have your handy little schedule at hand.
Ready? Steady? GO ROCK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!
